The LTCL Distance Learning Course

A Personal Statement from Patricia Holmes

"At a time when accredited qualification is becoming increasingly necessary, the LTCL Diploma in Instrumental/Vocal Teaching gives an excellent opportunity for experienced instrumental and vocal teachers to gain formal recognition for their work, while at the same time enabling newer teachers to demonstrate a firm foothold in the profession.

My experience teaching successful candidates so far has shown that the framework of the LTCL encourages a structured approach to the main issues facing instrumental and vocal teachers, engendering confidence in both the teachers and their students.  Existing LTCL courses at Trinity College of Music are becoming increasingly popular and it is our aim with Teacher Training for Musicians to give similar opportunities to those who no longer have access, or wish to have access to the mainstream education system."

"Passion drives success"

Your First Step Towards An Accredited Qualification

Our overall aim is to enable you to develop the skills and knowledge needed to pass the LTCL in Instrumental/Vocal Teaching.

However, if you would like to undertake more informal professional development, then you will find our courses equally useful.

Course Aims

Trinity's Diplomas in Music Teaching are designed to reflect and formalise professional experience.  It is possible to attempt these qualifications without outside help, but most people find that support is vital, particularly in the early stages of preparation, to ensure that both content and criteria are fully understood.  TT4M courses are therefore designed to explain and clarify aims and objectives, assessment methods and criteria, in addition to giving essential guidance on teaching strategies and materials.picture of harp is downloading

We strongly believe that lifelong learning should be accessible to all, whether teacher or student.  Each year, advances in the knowledge of psychological processes further our understanding of music pedagogy, helping us to develop more effective learning and teaching methods.  Keeping up to date can be a challenge, but any individual can expand their knowledge and understanding of the whole process of music education, enabling both progress and innovation.

Key to the ethos of TT4M is the ability to facilitate the formal recognition of existing skills and experience, whilst at the same time bringing together like-minded individuals to share in continuing professional and personal development.

Additional Benefits of Teaching Diplomas

Apart from becoming a better-informed teacher with a greater range of resources to draw upon, achieving a professional teaching diploma can benefit teachers in the following ways:

  • convert LTCL into credits towards an Open University Bachelors Degree.

  • improved job prospects.

  • eligibility to join a professional body such as the Incorporated Society of Musicians who can support and advise you on a wide range of professional and contractual matters.  As a member of the ISM you will be eligible for a number of discounts, including insurance.  The ISM Music Journal (published monthly) will keep you abreast of current developments in the music profession and enable you to keep in touch with a wide network of fellow musicians.
